WAYS TO VOLUNTEER

Professional
Volunteer

Interested in sharing your knowledge and experience and helping others in their employment journey? Apply to be a Corporate Volunteer.

Mentor

Speed Mentoring® provides an excellent team-building experience for your company.

Employees can volunteer as a group to mentor and provide advice to our jobseekers.

Speed Mentoring is a 2 to 3-hour event that can be held on or offsite, with a minimum of 6 volunteers and includes 10-minute rotations of one-to-one interactions.

ACCES works with new Canadians who are often looking for their first career opportunity in Canada. If you have knowledge and expertise in specific sectors or roles, we invite you to join us for a guest speaking session to share what you know, and answer jobseeker questions. Each session is 1.5-2 hours and includes a Q&A period.

Similar to Guest Speaking, a Panel Discussion is a great opportunity to share your knowledge and experience with our jobseekers. Each event runs for 1 to 2 hours, can include up to 4 volunteers (usually sector specific, i.e. IT, Finance, Sales and Marketing, etc.) and includes a Q&A period.

This 2 to 3 hour session is an opportunity for volunteers to help jobseekers gain experience interviewing with employers. We provide interview questions and tools and each interview lasts for 30 minutes consisting of a 20-minute interview followed by 10 minutes of constructive feedback. Minimum 4+ volunteers.

Ideally, business advisors will have experience operating their own business:

  • 3+ years’ experience coaching small business clients
  • 3+ years’ experience working with newcomer clients
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the start-up business life cycle
  • Extensive knowledge of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Canadian small business industries
  • Active involvement in local small business networks and the local small business industry

Responsibilities may include one-to-one meetings with entrepreneurs, reviewing draft business plan and provide support and direction to resources for further research towards completion of business plan, including feedback on business idea viability, strategic plan and marketing and cash flow to achieve planned revenue, referrals to support entrepreneurs building their network.

ACCES offers support to jobseekers from various sectors through industry-focused programs and advisory committees. If you are interested in contributing your expertise to a specific program, we invite you to contact us for more information on ways you can support these programs, get involved and be the first to meet our jobseekers.
