Tina Alleyne is a single mother, living with 3 children. She obtained a college certificate in Small Business from George Brown College and she owned and operated her own hair salon business. Unfortunately, Tina became ill and had to close down her business and was hospitalized for more than a year. She struggled through surgery and rehabilitative therapy and supported herself and her 3 children through the Ontario Disability Support ProgramUncertain of her next steps, Tina was referred to Employment Ontario and job search services at ACCES Employment. With the help and support of her Employment Consultant, Tina applied to, and was accepted into the Second Career program, a program designed to support laid-off, unemployed individuals who need skills training to help them find employment in occupations with good job prospects in Ontario.

Through Second Career, Tina was able to secure support funding and is currently working toward a Holistic Nutrition Diploma with the Institute of Holistic Nutrition. Tina is eager to help others and she is passionate about learning how nutrition impacts health, especially for those who are struggling with chronic disease. With the support of ACCES and Employment Ontario, Tina is looking toward a bright future in holistic nutrition and health.

“Going through this process at ACCES was the very thing that propelled me to want to pursue this career that much more. My ACCES Employment Consultant, Khalid, was so awesome; he held me accountable and I so appreciate him for that. During this push, I proved to myself that I truly wanted this! Believing in yourself is the biggest battle, but once you change your mind you see things in a new light. Thank you, ACCES!”
