On April 24, 2025, ACCES Employment unveiled its latest initiative the ACCES Street Fleet, a mobile employment service designed to bring job support directly to underserved communities across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This innovative approach aims to eliminate barriers to employment by providing to jobseekers who may face challenges accessing employment services.
ACCES Employment’s President and CEO, Allison Pond kicked off the event which took place at the Malton Youth Hub, with opening remarks underscoring systemic challenges and barriers to access impacting jobseekers today, and how this inspired the creation of the ACCES Employment Street Fleet. She was joined by Sheref Sabawy Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and MPP Mississauga Erin-Mills, as well as Mississauga Councillor Natalie Hart, who both spoke about the need for the programs and services that ACCES provides in local communities and the lasting impact they can have.
As attendees celebrated with an official ribbon cutting, they were also able to hear from Adaoma Patterson, Director of Community Service Investments at United Way Greater Toronto. Patterson shared the reasons that United Way donated to the project, which connects to their work transforming and injecting opportunity into underserved communities across Peel, Toronto, and York Region.
ACCES Street Fleet is a specially equipped vehicle staffed by employment specialists. The mobile unit will travel to various neighborhoods, offering services such as résumé writing assistance, job search support, interview preparation, and information about programs to support upskilling. By bringing these resources directly to communities, ACCES Employment seeks to reach individuals who may be isolated due to factors like transportation limitations, caregiving responsibilities, or other socioeconomic barriers.
Guests also had the opportunity to see the Street Fleet in action, as we hosted a hands-on workshop right on site. Local youth participated in the session, gaining valuable insights into how to effectively leverage LinkedIn in their job search. Â The workshop not only equipped them with practical tools for online networking but also provided a supportive environment where they could ask questions, share experiences, and build confidence in using the platform to enhance their career prospects.
This initiative was made possible through the generous support from our key sponsors including Toronto Pearson and United Way Greater Toronto and donors who provided support as part of ACCES Employment’s broader “A World of Difference” campaign, which focuses on expanding access to employment services through innovative solutions.
