Lucille D’Souza was called to the Law Society of Ontario in 1998.
After she was called, Lucille worked as an associate in the Toronto Business Law Group of a Canadian law firm providing advice on corporate and securities law matters.
In 2000, Lucille joined a Canadian bank taking on a variety of leadership and executive roles over a 24 year career at the organization. Lucille was Head, Subsidiary Governance Office, a global centre of subsidiary governance excellence and expertise, with legal professionals in eight locations world-wide. In her last role, she was Vice-President and Associate General Counsel for the Strategy & Operations team. Her team provided legal support for IP, Marketing & Sponsorship, Canadian & U.S. Regulatory, Real Estate, Procurement and Strategy matters at the bank. The Operations team was responsible for external counsel relationships, innovation of the Law Group’s practices and technology, e-Discovery and business measurement & reporting.
In her twenty four years at the bank, Lucille worked on many large M&A transactions and complex re-structuring projects that have resulted in the creation of a number of regulated bank subsidiaries in Canada and jurisdictions world-wide. Lucille also Chaired the Bank Act (Business Powers) Committee at the organization. For several years, Lucille co-chaired the Diversity Committee for the Law Group. In recognition of her efforts to support diversity and inclusion, Lucille was awarded the 2011 Lexpert Zenith Award for diversity action by in-house legal departments. Lucille was also profiled in Amoi magazine as well as Women of Influence magazine. Lucille has participated in panel discussions regarding subsidiary governance, diversity and women in law.
