Newcomers in Markham Gain a Unique Job Search Resource

Markham, Ontario, Thurs. February 21, 2019

On Thursday February 21, ACCES Employment officially launched its 6th location in the GTA. ACCES Employment and RBC have partnered together to create a unique resource centre supporting job search and financial needs for newcomers to Canada. The centre will help jobseekers find employment and navigate services and resources available in Markham and surrounding York Region communities. ACCES offers a variety of programming and resources for jobseekers while the RBC Meeting Place will focus on personalized advice for newcomers as they navigate their journey in Canada. Together, the centre will focus on serving Markham’s diverse community – which will benefit from the knowledge and services available through the joint on-location team.

“ACCES Employment played an integral part in helping me better understand the Canadian landscape while providing the support I needed to boost my confidence. There is no question – ACCES makes a huge impact on the lives of new immigrants.” With the help of ACCES’s Financial Services Connections bridging program, Sheila Armena, was able to secure her first job after her very first interview in Canada. Her new job was with RBC and several years later, she became the Assistant Branch Manager of the first RBC Newcomer Meeting Place located in Brampton. Her journey as a newcomer offers her a truly unique perspective as she helps new Canadians connect with community resources and other settlement services.

“ACCES and RBC have a long-standing relationship working together to support newcomers and jobseekers across the Greater Toronto Area. RBC has been a strong supporter, in many different ways, of ACCES’s vision and mission to realize a diverse workforce that reflects the skills and experience of Canada’s population. Our new Markham location is one step further in the relationship, offering a centre where jobseekers can get started with programs, workshops, connections to employers that are hiring and advice and support,” says Allison Pond, President & CEO of ACCES Employment.

This site will also house ACCES Employment’s Cybersecurity Connections, Engineering Connections and online Electrical Engineering programs. Unique virtual classroom workshops will also be delivered to live and online audiences. These workshops will provide job search support for jobseekers in the community and to remote locations online.
