In Peel Region’s fast-growing communities, the demand for affordable childcare continues to outstrip supply, and the need for Early Childhood Educators is high.

The Connecting to Careers in Early Childhood Education program will prepare you to work with children (birth to 12 years) and their families, and to gain viable employment in a high-demand sector.

Connecting to Careers in Early Childhood Education is a sector-specific program offered in partnership with Humber and Sheridan Colleges. In this 16-month program, we will help you to complete a college diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and secure employment in this field.

Program Components

  • 16-month program
  • Canadian-context academic training from a recognized educational institution
  • Business communications and workplace culture training in a Canadian context
  • Future-skills training in creative problem solving, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, resilience, and much more
  • Employer Connections – Guest Speakers, Pitch Panel, Speed Mentoring®, The Mentoring Partnership, Job Fairs, Recruitment Events
  • One-to-one job search support from an Employment Consultant who is knowledgeable about the Canadian labour market and the ECE sector trends

Connecting to Careers in Early Childhood Education is funded by the Region of Peel and delivered in partnership with Humber College and Sheridan College.

Program Benefits

  • Acquire the knowledge and practical skills of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) and complete a college diploma.
  • Receive extensive support to complete your ECE diploma, including college tuition, books, transportation costs, access to the internet through the college labs, and much more
  • Receive financial support to register with OCAS and to meet the requirements to work as an ECE (immunization record, CPR, and first aid training)
  • Support to secure and complete work placements in the ECE field
  • Receive access to a wide range of mentoring and coaching opportunities

Program Eligibility

  • A resident of Peel Region
  • Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen
  • Demonstrate language proficiency at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 7 or higher
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and a current Police check
  • Ability to sustain light to medium physical effort: Lifting up to 45 lbs, bending and stooping, sitting crossed-legged on the floor, etc., without assistance
