Constructing a Future Workforce is a free, 13-week training and employment program that helps people affected by layoffs, reduced hours, and economic change build a new career in residential construction. Participants can choose from one of three streams: Carpentry, Masonry, or Modular Construction.

Funded through Ministry of Labour Immigration Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) Skills Advance Ontario program, the program helps participants move from unstable industries into in-demand construction careers through hands-on training, industry-recognized certifications, and direct connections to employers.

The program includes 3 weeks of technical skills training, 3 weeks of sector-transition training, and 7 weeks of personalized job search support. Participants gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to pursue entry- and mid-level construction roles and build toward long-term careers in the sector.

  • Future-skills training in creative problem solving, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, resilience, and much more
  • Insight into residential construction trades and career opportunities
  • Information about career pathways, apprenticeships, and workplace expectations
  • Understanding of workplace safety and various tools of the trade
  • Health and Safety certifications including Working at Heights, Forklift Operation, Elevated Work Platform, and WHMIS
  • Understanding of technical foundations specific to construction and building systems, with an option to specialize in masonry, carpentry, or modular construction and obtain hands-on experience
  • Out-of-Pocket and Basic Living Expenses may be supplemented if participant is eligible

To participate, you must:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Able to travel within the GTA
  • Available and committed to the full 13-week program
  • Have an interest in starting a career in construction

There is no fee associated with this program. 

Eligible participants may receive financial supports, including: 

  • Support for training-related expenses (e.g., equipment, transportation)
  • Additional employment support and coaching
  • Basic Living Expenses allowance (if eligible)
